FIRE  DUCK  POKERS

Fire Duck poker

My pokers were designed with real functionality in mind.    This is one I've dubbed the Fire Duck,  due to its unique tine shape.    The business end is made to push and pull,  roll and balance split logs,  and lift or move pots and  branches.    Pokers like this have been around since the dawn of blacksmithing,  but try to find one nowadays.    Excellent for campfires as well as any size firebox or fireplace.    Used alone,  it works better than any fire poker I have ever held.    Used as a pair,  they will arrange any fire quickly and effortlessly.    I don't cut corners when making these.    I'm not interested in beating out the cheap,  high volume guys because I know from experience that a quality tool will pay for itself many times over.    Since making and using these tools,  I couldn't imagine working a fire with anything else.    Click on the picture to see close up details.    $40 for a plain tined one,  add $5 for the extra twists on the tine.    Add $5 for longer lengths,  and $10 for 1/2 inch bar stock.    I'll sell you the second one for $5 less,  and you save on shipping.

I start with 3/8 or 1/2 inch square bar stock,  form the twists,  then draw the handle end to a very long tapered point.    I shape the handle on the anvil horn,  twist the taper around,  then put  a small bevel on the tine joint end.    The tine is drawn at both ends,  perhaps twisted,  shaped on the horn,  then gas welded to the haft.    A final blacksmith's finish of beeswax is rubbed on while the iron is hot,  giving it the classic,  centuries old burned black appearance and excellent rust resistance.    Since the black color does not photograph well,  the picture shows one with the bare forge slag before finishing.     The overall length of this one is about 32 inches,  made from 3/8 stock,  but I can make one any length you like.    My 5+ footer is great for those hot Texas days when you just don't want to get too close to that firebox,  or if you're tending a large bonfire.

CLASSIC  POKERS

Plain poker

The classic poker has nothing more than a simple loop for a handle with a hook thing on the other end.    These are not stripped before finishing with beeswax to keep the cost down.    Round or oval shaped handle and made from 3/8 inch square bar stock.     These are about 26 inches long.    $12

I'm introducing a plain Fire duck as well.    It comes in any length, but without the fancy twists and the handle is a plain loop.    Made from 3/8 inch square bar stock and beeswax finish.     $25, add $5 for longer length and $10 for 1/2 inch bar stock.

GRILL  PICKS

The grill pick works like the handle for the cooking hole covers on an old pot bellied stove by slipping the points between the grill rungs and balancing.    It takes a pair to handle any size grill without getting your hands burned or dirty.    These are about 27 inches long,  each made from a single section of 3/8 inch steel bar stock.    $50 per pair.

RAKES

Fire rake

Rakes are good for pit scraping,  ash clean up,  charcoal chasing,  or even moving food or pans around on a large grill.    This one is made from 3/8 inch bar stock with a 14 gauge steel tine.    I also make one with four curved steel teeth instead of the flat stock,  kind of like a hooked garden rake.    All of my fire tending tools sport a classic blacksmith's finish of beeswax burned on while the iron is very hot.    $40 for this 36 inch long one.

I can make any of my tools in any length and with any style tine or loop without extra charge for custom specifications.    Each piece is already a custom work of art.    Prices are based on how long it takes me to make each one.    Call or email me with your specifications.

Dimensions of the tools are approximate,  since each one is hand made.   There will be some variations in the style and shape and there will be hammer marks,  making each piece unique.
